Hey everyone, Jeremy here, Managing Director of The Human IT Company, the best IT support company in Vancouver where we show you The Way IT Should Be Done! Today’s video topic is a 1-beanie subject, not very techie at all. Today, we’re talking about the difference between the acronyms WFA and WFH (which are work from anywhere vs. work from home). It’s common knowledge that since the pandemic started, a lot of companies shifted to remote work models. Now, we’re not here to debate the merits of WFH business models, whether they’re good or bad for business, or if they negatively affect productivity. We’ll look at those topics in a future video. Today we’re going to focus exclusively on the differences between WFH and WFA.
While these terms might seem similar at first glance, they actually refer to two different approaches to remote work. Work from home (WFH) refers to the practice of working remotely, and specifically, from one’s own home. This is the traditional model of remote work, where an employee works out of their kitchen, or living room on a regular basis. It’s a pretty straightforward concept.
Work from anywhere (WFA), on the other hand, is a more flexible approach to remote work. It allows employees to work from any location, as long as they have a stable internet connection, the necessary equipment, and access to the files, tools, or data they need to do their jobs. This could mean working from a co-work space, a coffee shop, or even while traveling, which is pretty cool.
One of the main benefits of WFA is that it gives employees the freedom to choose their own work environment. This can be especially appealing for those who may feel cooped up working from home all the time, or those who simply prefer a change of scenery. Plus, it’s a great opportunity to mix up your daily routine and get out of the house, which is seen by some as important for mental wellness also!
However, WFA also requires a higher level of self-motivation and discipline, as employees are responsible for managing their own schedule and finding a suitable location to work from. It can also be more difficult for managers to provide support and supervision to employees working from different locations. It’s important to keep these challenges in mind when considering WFA as an option for your business.
Overall, both WFH and WFA are valid approaches to remote work, and the right choice will depend on the needs and preferences of the individual and the company. It’s all about finding the right balance, whether that’s WFA one week and in-office the next week, fully remote, or something else!
As the world continues to adapt to the new normal of remote work, it’s crucial for companies to consider the benefits and challenges of both WFH and WFA, and find the approach that works best for them and their employees. Whether you’re a WFH enthusiast or a WFA pro, there are plenty of options out there for you to choose from. So, what do you think? Do you prefer WFH or WFA?
